TejonDB is a Windows .Net application, but that doesn't mean you can't run it on a Mac. Many of the computers we use to programTejonDB are Macs. There are four ways to run Windows applications, includingTejonDB, on a Mac:
1) Purchase, install and run VM Fusion (from VM Ware) as a virtual machine host. Run Windows 7 in a VM. Run TejonDB in Windows 7. This is the method that we use internally at TejonDB. Most "Windows people" who buy Macs run VM Fusion.
2) Purchase, install and run Parallels as a virtual machine host. Run Windows 7 in a VM. Run TejonDB in Windows 7. Most "Mac people" who buy Macs run Parallels. We have not tested this configuration, but I have no doubt that it would work ok.
3) Install and run the free VirtualBox vm host software. Run Windows 7 in a VM. Run TejonDB in Windows 7. We have tested this configuration and can confirm that Ministry Weaver runs well using Virtual Box.
Using any of these virtual machine solutions you can run Windows applications and Mac OS X application simultaneously and switch seamlessly between them.
Configure the Virtual Machine with at least 1 CPU and 2048 Mb of RAM. More resources may improve performance, but it should run ok with the minimum.
So long as you use the Windows VM only for TejonDB, and don't use a browser inside of the virtual machine copy of Windows, you're safe from viruses. The standard Windows firewall and defender applications will be sufficient. If you use Windows for browsing and other normal computer uses, then we recommend installing an end-point protection, anti-virus software such as ESET.
4) Configure your Mac to use Apple Boot Camp. Install Windows 7 or Windows 10 and TejonDB in the Boot Camp partition. While this is the free solution provided by Apple, and it's perfectly suitable for running the occasional Windows application or game, we do not recommend this solution for TejonDB because you have to reboot the Mac to switch from the Windows partition to the OS X partition.
As with any Windows installation, it will likely require numerous rounds of updates. TejonDB also requires the latest version of .Net.
